Trail Blazing…

February 17th, 2008 by Cliff

After a couple of easy days it was back to "work" on Saturday.  The main menu consisted of a long run.  My appetizer was a swim in the AM .  I’m still trying to workout my kinks with the swim.  Progression is coming!  I think there will be a lot people suprised about the improvements.

Catalina trail was my choice for the run.  All dirt with no huge climbs (as in walking!).  I did about 2.5 hrs of continuous running, only stopping to take some pictures of course!

A highlight definately was running into a cow pasture and seeing a cow eating a cactus!  You think your tough?  Try eating a cacti.  His whole face was covered in quills.  I was actually a little leary of approaching him, not only cause he was eating a cactus (and hopefully trying to eat t me) but that he was on the main trail.  You see many signs of "Roaming Cattle" around but I’d yet to see them until now.   Sorry I didn’t get a pic, I really didn’t want to spook him!

What made the run a little difficult was the main path got lost because of the cattle walking around making new trails.  I had to turn back a couple times to make sure I was going the right way.

My endurance training is slowly growing.  I’ve noticed a big change from Asheville to here.  In Asheville I would be zonked after a 3 hour ride.  Now a 6 hour workout doesn’t seem so bad.  This is the best feeling, the feeling of doing whatever whenever.

Although with my new form, I still have last years memories fresh in my brain; burning out and not wondering when my motivation would be back.  So I try to work hard when I need to and relax hard when the time comes for it.  I’m hoping this will help make the best season yet!

This week is going to be different than the previous two.  I’ve got to do some running.  A lot of double runs are on the agenda.  Later in the week there is an endurance run of epic proportions which I will talk about later.  This is going to be huuuuuuuuuge!

Anywho, hope everyone had a good weekend.  I’ll be hard at work trying to get the latest video out (www.livemultisport.com).

Happy (Trails) Trainin!

Sounds like a great day although I wish you had taken a pic of the cow! And happy 10000 to “the Boss”…it seems like only yesterday that we were picking him up at the Bike barn and stuffing him on top of me in the Neon!
