Philly Cheesesteaks, Sushi and Whoopie Pies

January 15th, 2008 by Cliff

On Sunday we drove from Boardentown to Philadelphia.  We wanted to check out the Rocky monument as well as run the stairs.  A cliché but something you gotta do!

Philly is a great city.  Since it was Sunday, there was little traffic which made parking a lot easier.  With the car parked we started on foot down to the Museum of Art.  We passed a vendor who was selling "Authentic Philly Cheasesteaks" which we knew, had to be eaten.  Anybody who knows me, I have a hard time eating things that are "not good for you".  I really didn’t have to try to force myself to eat this.  Besides the white bun, it was really good!

To counter the philly we went with the Sushi

The Museum of Art was again breath taking.  You could walk down the center of the road (2 lanes on either side) for about a kilometer with a great view of the Museum.  Adding to the view were the flags of all the countries in the world hung on either side.  Very nice!  Stay tuned for the video of us running the monument!

After this excursion, we piled back in the car and headed to Washington D.C.  We picked a perfect day to explore I must say!  Again no problems parking and it was bright and sunny.  Instead of walking we ran to the monuments.   The streets were clear of cars but there were still some lineups at the different tourist attractions.

Besides the Lincoln memorial, I really wanted to checkout the White House.  I wanted to ask Georgey boy to come out for a bicycle ride when we get to Asheville.  Too bad he is was in Israel…   I think he would have taken us up on the offer!

The sun started to set so we headed back to Ricky.  We still had a 60 minute drive to Boadentown for the night.  This is where things started to get a little sketchy.

First off, my cigarette lighter died in the car.  Which meant no power to our many electronics (fridge, computer, GPS..).  Our GPS died and Chris’s computer mysteriously had no power…  To add to the drama, Chris didn’t right down the place where we were staying.  We were literally flying blind.

We were back to the old ways, following paper maps and street signs.  I mean we were literally in the 20th century!

With the help of celling everyone to get help finding out where we were staying, we found our place.  Another late night, with along drive ahead!

Monday was a transition day.  I had either Durham or Charlotte as the stop point for the day.  Turns out we did both!  We ran in Durham and then drove to Charlotte after.

Durham is a college town with two of the biggest basketball schools, Duke and North Carolina.  We stopped at a local YMCA and ran around the city.  What another great day!  We got to wear shorts!  First time our legs saw sunlight since….. October?!  Beautiful run!

In the evening we got to checkout a NBA basketball game in Charlotte.  Cheap tickets (10 bucks a piece) sat us in the upper bowl.  The game was great back and forth action between the Hornets (Charlotte) and the Denver Nuggets.  The home team one which made everyone happy!  As you can see from some of the pics, there was little fan support!

Today we are as far South as we will get for the next week.  We will start our journey West to Asheville, NC to hit up the Blue Ridge Mountains.  The weather looks like it will be around zero with sun.  Should make for some great photos!

Latta, missin everyone!  Happy (Weather) Trainin!

I think you need to contact Whoopie Pie Inc. and get them to endorse this trip. :)
