Running Up Mt. Hope - Elevation…….

December 9th, 2007 by Cliff

115m.  So it isn’t really a mountain!  During the summer the route is frequently travelled by cyclists.  Maybe it is because it has "Mountain" in the name that people want to try it.

This was one of the runs I have always wanted to do.  I decided that today would be the day.  I packed up Ricky OB (my Subaru Outback) and proceeded to drive to the hill.  I know what your thinking, "hey lazy why didn’t you run to it?".  Well, I lacked the 45km endurance in my legs just to get there so I drove.  Someday I’ll be able to run that far so this you can hold me too.

As for the day it was sunny and cold (-13).  The plan was to just run at an easy pace.  I stayed true to my word except for when I met some dogs at the top of My. Hope.  Two German Sheppards on one side of the road and a Rotweiler on the other.  Luckiy, a lady came out and called "Killer" back.  I proceeded on from this spot regretting that I had to come right back past it.

Further down the road was a house with 3 more dogs.  Another Rotty, a mut and a shaggy little dog that kept yapping.  This I decided was my turning point and decided to turn back.  Killer was locked up this time so I breezed past the house unscathed.

MyRun Stats: Total Ascent = 291 m  Total Descent = 273 m   Total Distance = 16K   AVS = 5:47 min/km   Cals Burned: 1424

Overall what a beauty of a day!  Cold but not windy which is what Fredericton is known for!  I had my camera powered up and forgot it…  Next time I will be putting up some pics.  Maybe a video too if I run into those dogs again!

Happppy Trainin!
