What type of athlete are you: Olympic Distance Triathlete

Favorite Discipline: It’s a tie between the bike and the swim

Years Doing These Disciplines: Running: 5 years, Cycling: 3 years, Swimming: 3 years

Favorite Meal: Steak with roast potatoes and asparagus

Favorite Band: Tool, A Perfect Circle

Biggest Accomplishment: Getting into the PhD program at Dalhousie for English Literature

Most Memorable Event: Lausanne ‘06 Worlds

Best Workout: Main swim set of 10×100m first 5 descend and then hold the last five on pace.

Best Vacation Site: Sydney, Australia

Something That Someone Wouldn’t Expect To Hear About You: I am an avid gamer (D&D, boardgames)

Dream Job: I would love to own an aviary and handraise parrots

Worst Job You Have Had: Grocery Store - all through highschool.  Best job was at a Pet Store.

Worst Day of Racing: None yet.  Some of my races have been challenging, but I don’t have a "worst"

Any Advice For Future Athletes: Nothing can replace hard work.  There are no magic tricks to get faster.  Consistency in training will always win out.

 

The second athlete featured this week is a Bridgewater Triathlon Group leader, Ron Allen.  An Ironman and short course veteran who came off his best showing at Penticton this year!

Favorite Discipline: I enjoy the bike the most in fact triathlon would be a lot more fun without the run and swim.
 
Years Doing These Disciplines:   I think it was in 2001 that I did my first duathlon
 
Favorite Meal: Lobster
 
Favorite Band: Rolling stones
 
Biggest Accomplishment:  Still being alive ………. and doing my first Ironman race at age 58 in 2003
 
Most Memorable Event:   Hawaii Ironman in Kona in 2003 it was a lottery spot.
 
Best Vacation Site: Bahamas.
 
Something That Someone Wouldn’t Expect To Hear About you: Turtles in Fancy lake
 
Dream Job: Being retired with lots of money so I have the first part completed and working on the second part.
 
Worst Job You Have Had: Drywalling  and shovelling shit
 
Worst Day of Racing: Kona and it was the best of times and the worst of times and I wouldn’t trade it for anything, I cramped up 2 hours into the bike and struggled for another 14 hours that day and never did recover from the heat exhaustion but I finished under those conditions and will be known as IRON forevermore.
 
Any Advice For Future Athletes:  Don’t be too competitive and go out and just have fun, just like me and don’t take yourself too serious.
