I Hate 10Ks…
For some reason, probably because of all the duathlons I’ve ever done, I hate 10K races. Give me 6miles or a 12K and I’ll enjoy it. It’s something about killing yourself for 35 minutes and feeling tired for the reast of the day. It’s such a short race but it hurts!
Anyways, today I ran my second one of the year and like the first, won. Maybe I should switch out of this tri mess ;-).
Todays race was called the "Rattle Me Bones" which was held about 200ms away from my house. No joke. After I finished the race I did a quick cool down, showered, ate and dressed than walked back over. If only all races where this convenient! The race was a fund raiser for the Ottawa Hospital, where Amanda does her schooling.
This week was a rest week but my body wasn’t feeling it. I’m in one of those states where "have I done enough?" or "have I done too much?". More like the latter. Anyways, what should have been an easy week turned into a waste of rest.
My day started pretty early as I got up for some bike intervals. I had planned to do 60 (way back in September) but now it’s more like 30-40. I only had time to do 30. The morning was dark and cold as Ottawa slept. On my return the sun was up and the race course was being set up.
I gave myself 15mins to get to the start. It ended up being more than enough as the race was delayed awhile. I went from being hot and ready to having to re-warm self up. After the start I was worried my muscles would shut down because of being cold.
The race course is pretty much flat with a 400m hill at the 8K mark. I had run this route twice this week to make sure I knew what to expect. My recon really helped as I knew where to prepare for the hard parts (wind).
From the get go the race turned into a 3 man show. I tagged along at the back just running my own race. At the 5K mark it was down to two. I still just ran my own pace and at the 6K mark I passed the leader.
It’d be cool to say that I battled the whole way or out kicked my fellow competitors but truth is, I just ran. Nothing special. Didn’t push it, just tried to keep a good pace. I actually wanted to beat 34mins at the start and maybe if I had pushed myself that could have been achieved.
So my biggest joy, besides winning a 100 bucks, is I got the win with LiveMultiSport shirt on. The first victory of it’s young career! I got to put the logo on display for the hundreds of spectators and thousands of racers. Little victories!
I still got the rest of the day ahead of me, and I feel like garbage (hate you 10K!). I’m testing out one of the ComBats that I built to see if I can hit a homerun. Can you believe I’ve worked for 5 months building bats and I’ve never hit a ball yet!
Pictures to come!
Happy (Hittin!) Tranin!
