2009 Training Camp

October 22nd, 2008 by Cliff

What are you doing in 5.5 months?  Wanna do some East Coast cycling?  Yeah I’m crazy to start thinking about this already but I know from experience that planning way ahead gives you a lot more options (and  usually save you a lot more money!).

Since my season is drawing to a close I start to think about the future, next year and what I would like to do.  One thing I really enjoy doing is putting in a hard week of cycling to help set up my season.  Living in Canada usually means a lot of indoor training throughout the winter.  This can leave you feeling stale from all those hours logged on your trainer.

Next year, 2009, I’m starting to put together a training camp for the East Coast of the States.  I’m thinking of riding in Vermont, New Hampshire and New York.  I’ve already found some great loops with lots of climbing (15, 000+ ft!).  Ideally I’d like to ride 5-6 days racking up 6-800 kms.

The dates have not been set in stone but looking at weather forcasts for those States shows that early April would probably be the warmest/driest (compared to Jan, Feb and Mar).  Plus, places to stay will go down because it is between peak seasons.

The plan is in the works.  I will be gathering more information in the weeks to come (also be day dreaming about it a lot at work).  Contact me if your intrested.

So I’m but 3 weekends away from Florida.  This week is pretty easy as I just came off a strong 2 week block.  The next couple weeks will be about fine tuning little things as well as catching up on my calories.  My motivation is strong and I’m excited for sun!

Well I’m off to make another round of homeade gels.  There getting a little tastier…  A little bit ;-)

Happy Trainin

hmmm… I’ll run it by my finance guy … but I bet by April I’ll be screaming for REAL road. It’s the one thing I’m NOT looking forward to this winter!
