Bridgetown Long Course Race Report

Bridgetown 2007 - Swim

Hello peoples,

Today was my first ever long course triathlon which is also a 1/2 Ironman distance (1.9K/90K/21K). This race didn’t fit into my training schedule since I am mainly focused on duathlons. However I see this race distance as a good possibility for some serious thought next year.

The swim consisted of a tidal river which was very much with us on the way out and almost drug me to shore on the way back! Not to mention I got tangled up in one of the marker buoys because of the fast water action. I exited the water a little slower than I would have liked. Knowing that the fastest competitors were nearly 20 minutes ahead makes me think some swim lessons are in order!

I grabbed my bike and began to just chug out a decent rhythm. Bridgetown was very quiet in the early morning while the long course bikers were cycling the streets. There was however, a guy walking with an 8 pack (Keiths as I observed) with one missing. While our morning was just beginning, maybe someone’s night was just ending!

Bridgetown 2007 - Bike

My bike went much better than my swim. This was greatly achieved by having my brother chasing me down. Not having him whiz by me was a good motivator. Moving on to the run where I got the best place time of the day. I was able to move back through the field into a solid 4th place with first in my age group.

Not too shabby for my first attempt but more importantly got to see where my weaknesses are.

Hope training is going well for everyone else!

If you want some water time, we got the lake and the climate for 10-months a year swimming ;)
