Cookies, Rain and Running

June 1st, 2008 by Cliff

I’ve done it!  I made it through my two weeks of low sugar!  I ate my first cookie today (gluten free with no refined sugars of course!).   The one thing I was missing the most was pineapple.  It is one of the fruits I had to cut out (watermelon too).

What I’ve realized is that I don’t need to rely on high sugary sports drinks/bars.  Substituting with lower sugar foods will make you feel more neutral during the day.  I’m definitely going to try this diet again during race weeks.  That way when I do need sugar, my body is going to respond really well to it.

This weekend was a write off for cycling.  Rain has kept my bike inside but not my runners.

I went swimming yesterday in a pool full of adolescent boys.  I asked their "lifeguards" how much longer they’d be and his reply was 2 hours.  I know I could swim for that long if I got thrown out of a boat but 2 hours?  Kids can’t concentrate on anything for 2 hours but video games…

Most of my swim was done dodging kids which I guess is good practice for open water swimming.

This week capped off 1 of 2 big run weeks.  My biggest week which is the one coming should be roughly 100K of shoe slapping.  I’ve only hit this number twice before so we will see how it goes.  Once I start doing marathons or ultras I’m sure 100K for a week will be puny.  Right now though, its enough!

So here is my house that is under construction.  Everything you see besides the bathroom still has some tinkering to do.  As you can see we need to get some pictures up on the wall.  They are coming though!

Thanks for reading!  Good Job to all those who raced in the Navy Tridents Yesterday!

Happy (No RAIN) Trainin!
