Flying By…

May 30th, 2008 by Cliff

Ever have that feeling that there just isn’t enough time in the day?  This week just flew by…  Right now I know the days by what workouts I’m doing.  I know Monday is an early morning swim with a bike.  Tuesday is a track workout with a gym session in the night.  Wednesday is another early morning swim followed by a long run and a gym session in the PM.  Thursday is my easy day which is just a run in the evening.  Friday is a morning swim followed by my time trials.  Saturday is my group ride and Sunday is a swim and bike or run.

I feel like Saturday was just yesterday and now its tomorrow.  Amazing how time flies!

So I got a vote of confidence in my running this week.  The track that I have been using isn’t your typical one.  It’s shaped more or less like a pentagon.  Getting accurate distances is somewhat hard because I only measured it once (I know roughly where the 400m line mark is which is the standard track length).  This week I asked Amanda to re-measure it.  Turns out all my distances were long…  really long!  My 400m was more like 500, my 1K mark was 1.15K.  In fact I didn’t believe Amanda the first 10 times she measured (I had her do it over and over cause I didn’t believe her), I also had to go out and do it myself.  I needed to believe!

What does this all mean?  Well, in my head I was where I wanted to be.  I’m slower than last year but with room to grow.  With this new information however, I am ahead of schedule.  I’m actually scary ahead.  Which of course is good news…

Today was my usual TT training.  I started the morning off with a swim doing mostly shorter interval stuff.

Swim - 100m warm up

200m drill

6 x 50 @ 1:40 x 2

12 x 25 @ 50

200 cool down

After finishing I rode home to grab a bite and then suited up for my test against the clock.  Todays schedule was almost the same as last week  (2 x 10K) except with less recovery (5minutes instead of 10).  Crazy to think that each one of these is 1/9 of my race in July.

First one was started directly into a headwind followed by a cross wind and finishing into yet another head wind.  AVS 34.7 Km/h  Not fast but not too shabby considering the circumstances.  My second one was the opposite (in wind) and it showed, my AVS was 37.9 Km/h.  These were both done from standstills so the average would have been higher had I done it rolling.

Today was the first time I didn’t need music or any form of motivation to get out the door.  Time trialing is hard on the mind so sometimes you need that extra kick.

Tomorrow depends on the weather.  I’m hoping to do a huge workout (100K ride followed by some hard hill training) but the rain might play havoc.  We will see!

Thanks for reading.  Happy (Come on Sunshine) Training!
