Rain, Renovations and of Course Getting Lost…

May 27th, 2008 by Cliff

This weekend I got to partake on another Cycle-Logic bike ride, watch the Ottawa Race Weekend and get work done on the house.

Saturday was beautiful here, 20 degrees with not a cloud in the sky.  I got up eary to go ride with the same group as I did last week.   Since last week was a rest week I stayed near the back which ended up being a bad thing as I got dropped about mid way through.  I fought to open my delicious sugar free (still going strong!) energy bar.  By paying too much attention to the food I ended up off the back of the pack.  Oh well, I got to dine alone.

After retracing my steps from last week I had to make the emergency call to Amanda to ask where I was.  Turns out I was about 30-35K away.  After some instructions (I’m not great at remembering where to go), I pedaled home.  The worst part of this low sugar diet has to be the fact that I get hungry really easy.  I had to can all my sports drink for some not so tasty mixture of lemon juice, salt and water.  YUMMMMM!

This weekend had another first for me, installing a dishwasher.  After talking to the landlord they said they would replace it.   The old one was a 1980s circa which was rusting on the inside.  With no prior knowledge or plumbing skills, Amanda and I took out the new one and installed the new one.  This took 3 days however!

The first day rested highly on consulting Google for instructions on how to take out the old one.  It went smoothly besides a few screams and leaking water all over the floor.  The next two days went much better!

Sunday was the Ottawa Marathon and Half Marathon which Amanda and my friend Carla Murphy raced in.  Again, the weather was perfect.  Almost too perfect as the sun took its toll on the runners as a few passed out!  Both girls finished in PBs (neither had done a half before).  Overall good day.

Yesterday I cycled into Quebec exploring Gatineau park.  I rolled the dice with the dark skies and ended up losing.  At about half way the rain opened up with an 8 minute down pour; 6 of it was on me!  It was reminiscent of when my Dad and I explored the Cabot Trail.

After the rain left I was again lost.  This time I decided to not call and just tough it out (the man way!).  After adding an extra hour to my ride I made it home, running up the stairs for a nice hot shower!

This week is going to be a bit crazy on the training front.  I’ve got a big week of running followed by another bigger one!  Should be fun!

Thanks for reading!

Happy (Go away wind) Training!

Hi dears caught up on your blog, sorry but had to laught at your ”dance’ with the rain in the Gatineau hills. Did you do some hill cycling? Of course another laugh, (atyour expense!) on the un-in and in-stalling of your washing machine, but good on you both on completing the task. What is your address , please send it by email. love to you, Nanna
