Day 2, Wheres the cookies?

May 20th, 2008 by Cliff

Nah, the diet it going ok for now.  No crazy cravings yet.  The big thing I have to say though with forgoing sugar is that my emotions are constant.  There are no highs and no lows (yet).

I’ve been measuring sugar sizes, trying to keep the portions under 4 grams.  If I crave something sugary I’ve been eating strawberriers and cantalope.  Although I haven’t caved, its tempting to go after the fresh cookies that Amanda just made on the weekend.  15 days to go!

Training has been going pretty smooth lately.  I’ve been doing group swims on Fridays.  I just went on a 100K group ride (40 people!) on Saturday.  That was a great time.

I’ve also joined a gym and took part in a ABS class which focuses on core traning.  It was a great challenge!

My biggest feat was my workout on Sunday.  A interval treadmill workout doing mile repeats.  For those that know me, I hate running inside.  In Fredericton last year I trained with some fast people and there speed rubbed off on me.  Here in Ottawa, I don’t have running partners to go out with so the tradmill it is!

The workout was 5 mile repeats at varying speeds.  I started slow with the first half mile at 4:00min/km pace than sped up to 3:55 min/km for the second half.  Took a 2min rest done at 5:00km/pace and then started at 3:55 min/km speeding up to 3:50 pace for the second half.  I repeated this set 3 times with the same rest time as before.

The final set I started with 3:50 pace speeding up to 3:45 at the halfway point and then 3:40 with a min to go.

A year ago, I would have done this with ease.  Now, I’m trying to avoid burning out late in the season with too much interval training.  Instead of doing lots of high lacatate training this spring, I decided to do lots of endurance training avoiding intervals.  This gave me a great base and my body still feels rested (besides the 18, 000kms of driving!).  I’m hoping this will translate into a great summer peak and then rest up and go again for the fall.

Anywho, take it day be day.  Currently I’m in "painting mode", choosing from a million different colours of white for our rooms here.  Keeps me busy!  Thanks for reading!

Happy Trainin!
