Lake Louise…
On Saturday the old roommates and I checked out Lake Louise compliments of my friend Crystal who provided us with free passes. It was the Kokanee free ride which included a bus pass, 2 free beverages, lunch and of course a lift ticket. Sweet deal I must say! To top it off, the day was the best I’ve seen since I’ve been here.
Eight buses left from Calgary in the wee hours of the morning. Packed to the gills with 18 year olds and a couple of us old farts!
Louise tops out at about 6000 feet with over 4900 acres of playground. There are 16 lifts that ferry you all over the mountains front, back and sides. Conditions were good, icy in some spots especially as the day wore on.
With the amount of mountain it was easy to stay away from people. Louise wasn’t overly busy except for the Kokanee beer tent. Around 3:30-4, almost closing time for the hill, everyone was cashing in their free beer tickets! Lots of burnt faces celebrating a great day in the snow.
My roommates lent me a board, boots and snow pants. They both have 2 boards each and a plethera of other gear. It was a treat to use a board that was waxed as mine at home hasn’t been since I got it 5 years ago!
This was my first time on the hill in over a year. I had to shake off the rust early as my roomies tore up the hill. They have both invested a lot of time into boarding. It showed as I played catch up for most of the day.
Overall it was an awesome day! This was by far the biggest hill I’ve been on. Not quite Crabbe or Martock! Lake Louise moves into my favorite spot in front of Sugar Loaf which I got to enjoy last year.
Today is another sunny one and I think I’ll enjoy it pedaling around Calgary. Its been a week of rest or somewhat (averaging about 6 hours a night of sleep!).
Last day here! This will be my last week of travels with stops in Regina, Winnipeg and Ottawa.
Thanks for reading! Happy Trainin!
