Tranquility of Victoria…
Victoria feels smaller than Halifax but is about the same size in population. There is a great water front which is perfect for running/cycling. Tourism is the name of the game and so there is a lot of small coffee shops, bakeries and souvenir places. There is a massive park , Beacon Hill, (much like Pt. Pleasent) which you can escape the pavement and city life.
Although you’d hardly be stressed in a city of this size. Everyone is laid back. It’s nice to see a city that isn’t outgrowing its infrastructure. If you need bigger, hop on the ferry back to Vancouver or take one to Seattle. Very nice way to live!
It’s been a little over a week and I have enjoyed my stay here in Shawnigan Lake. The weather has been rainy at times but this weekend made up for it! Temperatures although mild for the time of year (18) was welcomed with open arms (and short sleeves). My aunt and uncle took the day to show me Victoria.
Totem polls were at the top of my list so we set off to Beacon Hill Park, sight of the worlds tallest ( I think second now). According to the monument the pole stands at 127 feet and 7 inches, pretty dang big!
Another popular site to see is killer whales. The day was too nice to go out on the frigid ocean searching for them.

We then drove to the village of house boats. There was 3 lanes of the suckers! One was for sale, and I ask how much would you pay?
Perks: Ocean front all the time. If you hate your neighbours you can float off. No need for a car.
Problems: But people can see in your windows and if you sink… well your house is gone.
How much? 450, 000 bucks. Not my cup of tea. There were lots of neat designs though.
The seal shown (there is actually 2 if you look hard enough) is being fed by the tourists. These guys hardly had to move as it was constant feed time!
One of the new renovations going on in Victoria is Ocean front condos. Lots of them are going up. Prices start at a modest 250K.
Could be mistaken for Ottawa, the parliament buildings of Victoria. Checkout the green grass. Nice to see that spring is here!
Once we were done this tour we headed over to China town for some noodles at a place that Caryl and Evo highly recommend. I can’t remember the name of it but I will ask them! Great place and a very cool atmosphere. Noodles are made fresh before your eyes with a blend of spices and sauces. Apparently the guy who owns the place use to just have a cart and do it by personal delivery. It grew, and now he owns 2 restaurants! If your ever in the city try it! Make sure to ask for mild though! Spiceeey!
Anywho, I’m going to call it a night. I went for a little jog and my legs are still a little sore but nothing big. Good signs!
Happy Trainin!

Tour Director’s notes: The houseboats are at Fishermen’s Wharf and lunch was at The Noodle Box on Fisgard St. The hot sun was a one-day gift from Ma Nature.
